What I've learned

As I progressed in my art career, my eyes were opened even wider. I began to see more and more how I was using Math, Science, History, Geography, Language Arts, Spelling and even Penmanship in my artistic projects. I found myself going back to relearn things I fluffed off in my earlier years. If I could go back in time, I would have paid more attention to all of those subjects. But alas, for me, those teachers never showed me the connection, the art academic connection. I never understood how those academic subjects could actually help an artistic, creative kid like me.

Teaching Differently

So, when I began teaching cartooning to kids, I saw something that really woke me up... there were a lot of kids in the world just like me, kids who aren't the average student.  And that is when I knew I had to do something. 

That's when I started to teach cartooning with a different angle. Over the past 25 years my goal has been to not only teach kids how to draw cartoons, but to also help young creative minds make sense of the Art - Academic connection. Once they see that academic subjects are useful in any profession, it all begins to make sense. They realize that all this will help them to succeed in so many other areas of their lives.

Whether in person on online, my various cartoon drawing lessons and projects  teach children that not only must one be artistic and creative to be a cartoonist but they will also find out that what they are learning in school is actually used in art, cartooning and many other professions and even everyday situations.
